Gallery Dona Bryhiel - The
museum - owned by the French artist Dona Bryhiel - is divided into
two sections: on the one side are featured modern figure paintings
of Caribbean women; the other side is dedicated to the Provincial

those seeking ceramic wares that offers both form and function,
artist Cecile Petrelluzzi's creations will fit the bill. A native
of Guadeloupe who studied in Pensacola, Florida, Cecile's works
are influenced by both the ocean and the history of St. Martin./

Minguet
Gallery, La Maison Des Arts -
A lonely childhood due to his loss of speech at 18 months influenced
Alexandre Minguet to develope a his skill of observation, and began
expressing himself through his keen drafting and construction abilities.
Minguet's formal training was vast, and began with a correspondence
course in drafting, and culminated with his attendance at the academies
in Montparnasse and the Ecole du Louvre. He has studied under various
world class tutors, and is himself no stranger to the artworld.
His life experienc, and formal training has led his to become one
of the artworld's premier colorist expressionist painters. He maintains
studios in New York, Florida and France. He is a master of both
painting and life. Experience his works, and you will begin to see

Nanette
Bearden Fine Arts Gallery - Nanette Bearden is a
former artistic director of a New York City dance company. Being
committed to the artistic culture of New York and St. Maarten, it
was only natural for to share her passion and skills with the Caribbean
community. The gallery is home to the only exhibition of internationally
renowned artist Romare Bearden outside of the United States. The
Beardens have become mentors for many of the local budding artists.
A tour of the Gallery will include both displays of Romare's special
collection of his St. Martin years, and original works of local
artists. They conduct frequent Gallery lectures and films. / 44

Carnival
- Held semi-annually, this festive gathering brings together
visitors and natives to celebrate the island's rich and deverse
culture. The French side of the island holds its Carnival during
the Lenten season, which is the tradition of the French Creole Mas.
The Dutch portion of the island celebrates over 17 days and nights.
The parade is in celebration of Queen Beatrix, the Queen of the
Netherlands. Islanders begin revving up for Carnival just after
Christmas. There are many activities scheduled before and during
Carnival.

Ducharme Collection - Eve Ducharme's gallery is
located in her home. She represents various artists of St. Bart.
Each of the artists have been influenced both artistically and personally
through her vision and experience as an artist and artists' representative.
The gallery includes paintings, sculptures and designs by both Eve
and her allied artists. The gallery is open for personal appointments.

Bart Music Festival (Saint Barths' Festival de Musique)
- Held in January, this Festival invites world class musicians to
perform here. The classical musicians, ballet and opera stars of
the world gather to showcase their talents for residents and visitors.
A group of professional classical musicians from Pittsburgh started
the festival in 1985 and it has grown since. Ballet was first presented
in 1988. In 1989 thy added jazz to the venue. Musicians from all

Carnaval
- Carnaval marks the beginning of the Mardi Gras season. It starts
with a costume parade and ends with the ceremonial "Burning
of VaVal" at Shell Beach. The island's predominant religion
is Roman Catholic so everyone is festive and ready to party, because
they know that after Mardi Gras comes the 40 day period of fast
